Meet BMT InfoNet's Web Site Sponsors

BMT InfoNet's popular web site www.bmtinfonet.org will be made possible this year by a grant from two outstanding organizations: the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF) and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMPD). Both organizations have a strong commitment to helping patients who face a blood stem cell transplant, and bring new resources to the BMT InfoNet web site.

This will be the second year that the Leukemia Research Foundation has sponsored BMT InfoNet's website. Among the many services provided by LRF to patients within a 100-mile radius of Chicago is their patient aid program. Qualified patients can receive up to $2,500 per year, for three years, to cover treatment-related expenses not covered by medical insurance.

"This year, we're delighted to provide patients with direct access to information about this program via the Helpful Services button at our web site," says BMT InfoNet Executive Director Susan Stewart. "The Leukemia Research Foundation does outstanding work and we hope patients will take advantage of their many helpful programs and services."

"The Leukemia Research Foundation is proud to be a major sponsor of the BMT Infonet website because of the consistent high quality of the information," says Jamie Weisenberg, Executive Director of LRF. "We believe the work of BMT InfoNet is filling a demonstrated need in the transplant community with dedication and zeal."

National Marrow Donor ProgramThe newest BMT InfoNet web site partner is the National Marrow Donor Program . The NMDP is the largest registry of unrelated blood stem cell donors in the world.

"We're excited about the possibilities this new partnership brings," says Stewart. "Both the NMDP and BMT InfoNet web sites are rich in useful information for blood stem cell transplant patients but each site has a slightly different focus. By combining resources and referring patients directly to portions of each site that will address their needs, we hope to better serve patients seeking critical information in a timely manner."

By clicking on the NMDP logo on BMT InfoNet's home page, www.bmtinfonet.org, patients and physicians can now scroll through a list of frequently asked questions about unrelated transplants, and get direct links to the NMDP web site where answers can be found. As fact sheets are developed about outcomes of transplants using unrelated donors to treat patients with particular a disease, direct links to the fact sheets will also be provided.

"This partnership allows both organizations to better serve the needs of patients who are diagnosed with an illness treatable by a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplant," says Pam Weisdorf, Director of the NMPD Office of Patient Advocacy.

The website www.bmtinfonet.org hosts more than 30,000 visitors each month. One of the most popular features is the online Transplant Center Directory, where patients can search for transplant centers that treat patients with a particular disease, in a particular state or in a particular age group. The archives of Blood & Marrow Transplant Newsletter, as well as the online Resource Directory, are also popular features, says Stewart.
