Survivor/Quilt Artist's Work Showcased

Victoria Bartling (second from right in front) is congratulated by BMT survivors Jay Feinberg (right), Art Flatau (right rear), Bob Beatty (second from left) and Sue Stewart (left) at BMT Conference.

The beautiful series of art quilts featured in BMT InfoNet's Celebrating Life 2004 calendar were showcased at the ASBMT/IBMTR Tandem Meeting last February in Orlando, FL. The meeting is attended by thousands of transplant physicians, nurses, pharmacists and administrators from around the world.

Victoria Bartling, the quilt artist and a transplant survivor, was on hand to accept the praises of the attendees who marveled at her ability to express the difficulties of going through transplant in such beautiful work. Each quilt in the series signifies an important milestone in a transplant patient's journey, such as diagnosis, finding a donor, engraftment and 100-days post-transplant.

The quilts have been so well received that Bartling has created note cards and prints of the most popular ones. "The note cards are especially appropriate for people working with bone marrow or stem cell transplant patients, as well as the patients themselves," says Sue Stewart of BMT InfoNet.

Bartling, who was transplanted for CML, has a web site where her work can be viewed. You can order at www.victoriabartling.com or by phoning 215-885-4548.
