Once again, thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers, we were able to make many "links" between new patients and a transplant survivor. This type of support is invaluable to those facing a transplant. I hear regularly from patients who are so grateful to have been linked with someone willing to lend an ear. I also sometimes hear from our volunteers that the person referred to them didn't call. Please don't take it personally. It's hard to know what has happened between the time a preson requests a link and when we give him your name and number. Sometimes their needs change. Other times, just knowing that someone is out there who has survived a transplant is enough. If you are not yet a volunteer in our Patient-To-Survivor Link Program, but would like to be, call me toll-free at 800-597-7674. You can also sign up on our website at www.bmtinfonet.org. Click on Helpful Services. If you would like to respond to any of the following requests, please call me and I will put you in touch. I would like to speak with someone (preferably similar in age to me) who had a mini transplant for the same." W.R. "My son had two transplants to cure chronic granulomatous disease. The second one was successful. I am looking for information on long-term side effects of BMT and wanting to talk to others who have survived multiple BMT's." C.R.
