New Patient Resources from the
National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP)

New Web Resource

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) has created a new Web resource-educational content for transplant patients, caregivers and their families.

The online Patient Resources is designed to help patients better understand their treatment options, learn how to make informed decisions and find support and resources. Key elements include:

  • Quick links to the most frequently requested information.
  • Printer-friendly pages to make it easier for patients to discuss treatment options with their doctor.
  • Information on patient advocacy and support provided by NMDP and resources available from other organizations.

Patient Resources will continue to expand. Pages about diseases treatable by transplant are now being created and pediatric transplant information will be available in early 2006. To access the new Patient Resources Web site, visit www.marrow.org/patient.

Online Survey for Health Care Professionals

The NMDP Office of Patient Advocacy and BMTInfoNet are conducting a survey to learn more about health care professionals' experiences working with caregivers of blood and marrow transplant patients.

If you are a health care professional who works with caregivers of transplant patients, you are invited to complete the online survey by visiting www.marrow. org/HCPsurvey.

The survey will take about 10 minutes and is voluntary and anonymous. Survey results will be used to develop materials and services to support health care professionals working with transplant patient caregivers.

Newsletter on Life after Transplant

Living Now, a new post-transplant newsletter from the NMDP Office of Patient Advocacy, offers tips, quotes and advice on survivorship issues. A series of six issues is being created to address various aspects of life after transplant, from three months post-transplant, to two years and beyond. The newsletter is free, and the first two issues are now available to be ordered. Starting in early 2005, patients who received a transplant facilitated by the NMDP receive the newsletter automatically.

To order the newsletter and other patient education materials, contact the NMDP Office of Patient Advocacy at (888) 999-6743 or (612) 627-8140. Spanish-speaking case managers are available. You may also order the newsletter and other materials online at: www.marrow. org/request.

National Marrow Donor Program

The National Marrow Donor Program helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant. We connect patients, doctors, donors and researchers to the resources they need to help more people live longer and healthier lives. To achieve our mission, we:

  • Search our Registry-the largest listing of volunteer donors and cord blood units in the world.
  • Support patients and their doctors throughout the transplant process.
  • Match patients with the best donor or cord blood unit using innovative science and technology.
