A hearty thanks to the many people who generously donated money to BMT InfoNet’s Katrina Relief Drive. As promised, 100 percent of the several thousand dollars you contributed went directly to people who had lost their homes and belongings as a result of the hurricane and flood.

Margaret ReinaMargaret Reina, a transplant survivor and New Orleans resident distributed your generous contributions to those in need. Here’s a small sample of the families you helped:

  • Eduardo and Claudia, a young couple who had purchased their first home together in July 2005 and lost everything in the flood.
  • Pattie and Gerald, lifelong New Orleans residents, who lost everything in the flood. They evacuated with their grown children and their grandchildren. The entire family is displaced with members living in different cities.
  • Janette, a 62-year-old lady who worked her entire life to pay for her home, and who lost everything in the storm. She had absolutely no worldly possessions left, except for a couple of changes of clothes.

“So many lives have been impacted by the aftermath of the two great storms,” says Reina. “These stories are repeated over and over. On behalf of the many families who benefited from your donations, I thank you.”
