Dear Readers,
With excitement, I present to you an extraordinary event taking place very soon. A first-of-its kind symposium, entitled “Celebrating a Second Chance At Life”, will be hosted by BMT InfoNet on April 14th in Oakbrook, IL. This symposium is for you— bone marrow, stem cell and cord blood transplant survivors and families. More than 300 survivors from around the country are expected to attend.
For 16 years, BMT InfoNet has been committed to serving patients, survivors & their families by providing patient-friendly literature about the transplant experience. This symposium enables us to reach out beyond the words written on a page and allows survivors and their families an opportunity to meet and talk with the experts: the doctors, nurses and most importantly, other survivors – who can share their wisdom. This is why I am so excited!
The symposium will be rich in information. From presentations on emotional issues to the physical hurdles survivors face, this day will be unique. (Click to see the agenda.)
My passion for the “Celebrating a Second Chance At Life” project is strong because I know the need is tremendous. As an 18-year BMT survivor myself, I have encountered many of the issues that will be discussed at the symposium. However, it was not my experience alone that prompted this conference. Many of you have communicated your needs to me over the years, and more than 700 people responded to a long-term survivor survey conducted by BMT InfoNet last summer.
This symposium was designed by and for you! My hope is that the educational day, ending in celebration, will arm you with information that will help place you in control of your long-term health.
It’ll be my privilege to spend the day with you and learn from your experiences. I look forward to sharing the great wisdom that will come from this conference with the thousands of transplant survivors unable to attend. This historic symposium will honor transplant survivors everywhere who are Celebrating a Second Chance At Life!
Sincerely,
Sue Stewart
