How Does a Virtual Symposium Work?

Learn, Share and Connect with Other Transplant Survivors and Caregivers from the Comfort of Your Own Home

How does an online or "virtual" symposium work?

Since it is not advisable to meet in-person this year, the virtual symposium will bring you the same great workshops and speakers, and an opportunity to interact with other survivors and caregivers via the internet. All you need is a computer or other electronic device such as an IPAD, a tablet, or a  cell phone that connects to the internet, and you’re ready to go!

How do I attend the virtual symposium?

The first step is to get registered.  Use the Register button at the bottom of this page.
After you complete the registration form, you will receive an email with a link to the website where the symposium will be hosted.  There, you can participate in the live presentations on their scheduled date and time, or view presentations that have already occurred and were recorded for you.

Bring your questions!

When you attend a live presentation, you will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions.  You will submit them through a Chat Box that will appear on the screen of your computer or electronic device. The speakers will answer as many questions as time permits.
You are also welcome to submit your questions in advance by emailing

How long do the presentations last?

Each presentation is 30-40 minutes long, followed by a question and answer session. The entire workshop lasts one hour.
The Ask the Pediatric Experts and Ask the Myeloma Experts workshops are a full hour of questions and answers.

What if I miss a presentation I signed up to watch?

No problem. All the presentations will be recorded and you can view them at any time after the live event, begnning one hour after the workshop ends.

No special programs, downloads or equipment needed.

You will not need to download any new programs or apps on your computer or electronic device in order to view the presentations. The link you receive by email after you register is all you will need to participate.

Download the speakers’ slides

You will be able to download a copy of the slides speakers are using for their presentation, as well as any extra handouts they provide. There will be a tab on each presentation that allows you to do so.  You can use the downloaded slides to take notes for future reference. You will not be able to download the videos of the presentations, but you can view them online after the live presentation.

After I register, can I change my mind about which workshops to attend?

Yes. We ask you to select workshops in advance so that we know how many participants to expect, and can provide sufficient connections. However, you are welcome to attend workshops other than those you registered for if you change your mind.

Will I see other participants when I listen to a workshop?  Will they see me?

No. You will be watching and listening to the presentation on your computer or other electronic device. You will not be able to see others who are listening to the workshop, nor will they be able to see you.

How can I connect with other survivors and their loved ones?

During the week of July 20-24, 2020 BMT InfoNet will host Networking Groups to enable participants to talk by phone and share experiences with others who have had similar experiences (eg. survivors talk with other survivors, caregivers talk with other caregivers, etc.).
The telephone Networking Groups will last for one hour and fifteen minutes. Exact dates and times will be announced as soon as we know how many people want to participate in a Networking Group. The groups will be led by trained group leaders and the identity of group members, as well as what individuals say in the group, will be confidential. CLICK HERE for more information.
The Networking Groups are a highlight for many people who attend our in-person symposiums.  If you are interested in joining a group discussion, please indicate that when you register.
